FOR ADULTS
The great works of wisdom literature provide some answersThe Bible, Talmud, poems of Rumi and Hafiz, King Lear; and immortal work in other art forms, such as the Sistine Chapel ceiling. But these are of the past, and lives that moved no faster than a horse can go are not the same as ours. Moreover, when so much of what we are and the way we think is shaped by the technical/mechanical world we have created, we need soul-nourishing activity and diversion in order to lead a balanced existence. To further assist individuals in their quest for meaning and identity, for the right combination of inner and outer in their lives, for clarity in their own sense of higher purpose, Housatonic Press will issue new and out-of-print books for adults and children that provide inspiration and stimulate creative questioning. Initially these books will be imaginative writing like The Three Candles of Little Veronica; in future non-fiction titles may be added. Housatonic Press depends on the good will and initiative of readers to help spread the word about our books. As a small publisher we cannot spend a lot on advertising and promotion. However, unlike the giants in our industry we can maintain a dialog with our readers and would like to hear from you, for example, if you want to recommend out-of-print titles you feel are particularly appropriate for us to publish. FOR CHILDREN Like heirloom seeds, many childrens classics have vanished because they do not meet the needs of mass market mega-publishers. As a small non-profit, Housatonic Press can rescue some of these rich stories from oblivion and add new ones that hold promise for the future. We exist to provide a specific form of nourishment for which children, even in our affluent society, are often starved. That nourishment feeds the sense of wonder and the openness to the spiritual that can be found in most healthy children. We seek to nurture these qualities in a wholesome and imaginative yet grounded way. Please help us in this work by sharing our books with those children you feel might enjoy them. |
